Activities and Meetings

LDAS hold a variety of meetings and events throughout the year. All the details of dates and timings can be found on the PROGRAMME page.

MONTHLY MEETINGS

LDAS meet at Standalone Farm in Letchworth on the last Wednesday of each month, from 1930hrs. The meetings feature an external guest speaker presenting on an astronomy topic of interest. Occasionally LDAS hold other meetings featuring presentations or workshops by members of the society. In December we have our AGM, at which we also run a raffle and quiz.

ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY MEETINGS

Members of the LDAS who also have a penchant for photographing the night sky also meet monthly to discuss this specialist activity outside the main meetings. See the calendar for dates and location of the meetings.

STAR PARTIES AND OBSERVING NIGHTS

The society has an observatory to the north of Letchworth. Built entirely by our members, it is a facility to be used for observing sessions for members throughout the year, as well as special events; such as public star parties. These are when LDAS invite the public to come and use these facilities, as well as members.

PUBLIC ASTRONOMY EVENTS

LDAS occasionally hold public astronomy events in town centres and at village fetes. It is an opportunity for the society to reach out to the public, and introduce people to the joys of astronomy.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS

Committee meetings are held quarterly.  Society members are welcome to contact the committee at any time. Any items to be considered at a committee meeting should be raised no later than two weeks before a meeting.
