March Monthly Meeting

25 March 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Dr Lillian Hobbs—‘ Wish You Were Here for Astronomers’

Tonight is a chance to travel around the world visiting places of interest to Astronomers and Space enthusiasts.  Using video from her trips,  Lilian shares her stories of places in the United States, some well known, others you may be surprised to know exist. Tips on how to get the most out of your visit and other popular places in Europe and India.

Lilian Hobbs developed an interest in astronomy when she was a teenager. Her first telescope, a 3” refractor from Dixons was used to take her first photo of the moon which she still has today in a paperweight.  Lilian has been an active member of the Southampton Astronomical Society for over 40 years, holding various posts, this year she is President. She has written books on the Meade ETX and LX90 telescope and her observatory has been featured on the Sky at Night. Despite living a few miles outside of Southampton, Lilian can image the horse head nebulae but it does take a while. Tonight she is going to share with you some of the places she has visited around the world.
