Adults' Astronomy Workshops
Would you like to learn about various aspects of astronomy? Would you like the opportunity to do some observing with a range of telescopes? Here is a chance to learn about astronomy in a number of sessions involving both theory and practice. They will be
held at the site of our observatory at Standalone Farm, and some will take place as part of our main observing programme.
The cost is just £5 per session to non-members and is free to LDAS members, but places are strictly limited and must be booked in
advance (see below).
The sessions will take place on Friday evenings, starting at 7:30 pm.
Here are the planned dates for these sessions.

Young Observers' Astronomy Workshops
We are also holding a series of sessions for young astronomers between the ages of 10 and 15. The intention is for them to be able to learn about astronomy without being intimidated by being in a room full of adult enthusiasts.
These also cost: £5 per session, and an accompanying adult may attend at no charge. Again, places are limited and must be booked in advance.
The sessions will take place on Saturday evenings, starting at 7:30 pm. They will last about 2 hours, though people are welcome to stay longer for additional observing if the sky is clear.
The planned dates are:
Spring
- April 3
- April 24
- May 1

Autumn
- September 11
- September 25
- October 30

"My Telescope Doesn't Work"
Do you have a telescope? How often do you use it? Is it sitting in a box in the loft? Hopefully not! But whether it’s a simple refractor or an expensive instrument, the most useless telescope is one that isn’t being used. We have had a number of people tell us at our public events that “I have a telescope at home but I don’t really know how to use it”. This event is designed to do something about that.
Everyone is encouraged to bring scopes along to a special workshop where we will explain the types of scope and how to use them. For example, we will cover how an equatorial mount is set up and operated.
This event is will take place on Saturday October 2, starting at 7:30pm. There will be no charge for this event, but we do need you to register so that we know how many people to expect.
How to book
To register for any of these events, write to events-at-ldas.org.uk (Replace "-at-" with "@")
State which date(s) you are interested in and we will let you know if places are available. If they are, you will be sent a booking form.
If you do not have access to e-mail, send a stamped self-addressed envelope to:
