Name Mike Atkins

Position Observatoy Manager
My interest in astronomy started way back at school when I did a short project on astronomy. I managed to get hold of a 60mm cheap refractor, and can still remember the thrill I got from looking at the moon and finding Saturn for the first time. Astronomy was put on hold for a few years until in the late 90s, comet Hale Bopp graced our skies. This rekindled astronomy for me and since then has grown to owning 4 telescopes, along with my own observatory in my garden, which now houses my 14 inch Newtonian reflector. (I am astronomy mad). I enjoy all types of astrophotography and CCD imaging, as well as visual astronomy and all subjects from planets, comets, solar, and deep sky. I am also a member of the BAA and SPA.
Interests My other interests are my family, I have four children, 3 boys and 1 girl and they take up a lot of my free time. I have done a few different jobs in my career but nearly all have been engineering based jobs, I currently run a small building business. Other interest include photography, architecture, history and antiques
