"My Telescope Doesn't Work"

A Special Astronomy Workshop

Do you have a telescope? How often do you use it? Is it sitting in a box in the loft?
Hopefully it's getting good use, but whether it’s a simple refractor or an expensive instrument, the most useless telescope is one that isn’t being used. We have had a number of people tell us at our public events “I actually do have a telescope at home, but ...”

If you're not sure how to set it up, where to plug it in or even which end to look through, this event is designed to help you get the most out of your telescope.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their scopes along to this special workshop where we will explain the types of scope and how to use them. For example, we will cover how an equatorial mount is set up and operated. Alternatively, if you're thinking of buying a scope and want to know more about them, then this will give you the chance to find out .

If the weather is good, then we'll do some practical observing during the evening. A thin crescent Moon sets at 8:30, and shortly afterwards, Jupiter will be high enough for observing. There will also be plenty of deep-sky objects on view.

How to book

This event takes place on Saturday October 1st, starting at 7:30 pm.

The workshop is FREE, but there are limited places, and you need to book in advance.

The workshop takes place at the site of our observatory at The Standalone Farm Centre to the north-west of Letchworth, off Wilbury Road.

To register, simply write to events-at-ldas.org.uk (Replace "-at-" with "@") and we will let you know if places are available. If they are, you will be sent a booking form.

If you do not have access to e-mail, send a stamped self-addressed envelope to:
LDAS Astronomy Workshops, 3 The Chase, Oaklands, Welwyn, Hertfordshire, AL6 0QT
Let us know your phone number, whether or not you have a scope, and if you do - what model it is and whether you will be bringing it along.
